Every year during the summer there are a number of festivals and cultural events,
the most well-known worldwide being the Pablo Casals Chamber Music Festival.
Thanks to the local associations and clubs (approx 100) Prades has the advantage of having a
variety of entertainments throughout the year for the pleasure of the locals and the visitors alike.

THE JOURNEES ROMANES  2013
  (Romanesque days)
From July  8 to 13 

The Roman Days 2013 will take place in July from Monday 8th to Saturday13th
in Saint-Michel de Cuxa abbey.
The theme will be
“the Roman portal –11th-12th centuries. New approaches, new perspectives.”

The aim of the conference is to inform the general public about the diverse themes of study of Roman portals giving an insight into recent research, its methods and results.

The conference speakers, coming from a dozen universities in France,Catalunya and Italy,
will approach the portal as a pictorial emblem of EuropeanRoman art.
The first series of meetings will look at the principal aspects of the portal: its link with the liturgy and the inscribed or canonical texts, its inscription on the facade and the evolution of the painted facade on entirelycarved portal and tympanum with varied images.
The further meetings and outingswill present to us, in an original way, the portals of Saint-Gilles-du Gard and Arles-sur-Rhone, of Ripoll and Verona, the portals of the chapter houses in the Midi and the playlets and mystery plays acted in front of these carved backgrounds, without forgetting the new interpretations of the Roussillon portals at Perpignan, Saint Genis, Saint Andre, le monastir del Camp, le Boulou, or in the Conflent at Villefranche, Corneilla, Riquer.......

In short, six full, exciting days rediscovering this grand classic of roman art, with, as usual, the medieval music of the Troubadours.

Verdi celebration of the bicentennial of the birth of Verdi

Meals show

In 2013 Opéra Mosset will celebrate the Verdi bicentennial with
a performance-cum-food based on Verdi's music.

Opéra Mosset's new show in 2013 will pay homage to Verdi in celebration of the bicentennial of his birth. In the form of a show-cum-food set in surroundings evocative of an Italian inn and complete with three courses of antipasti, the performance will conjure up Verdi's life and works.

Rather than a classical or chronological biography it will be designed as an impressionist portrait,
a trailer of Verdi's life and works.

Inside an inn symbolic of his youth and roots where he will meet is muse,
Verdi will get caught in a sort of time, space and consciousness distortion, and foresee fragments of his future like in a premonitory dream.

The musical excerpts, be they outrageously famous or lesser known,
will all be characteristic of the great composer's works.

Opéra Mosset will give six performances for up to 200 spectators nightly
from late July to early August.

THE UNIVERSITAT CATALANA D'ESTIU 2012

As every year since 1968, the Universitat Catalana d'Estiu (Catalan Summer University) organizes its conference and activities in Prades for the second half of August. The University receives over a thousand persons (students, teachers, young and old, all age groups) at Charles Renouvier Lycée to attend courses, seminars, meetings or recreational level, workshops, lectures, debates, films, concerts...
